Support with swallowing, speech, voice and communication, whether it is new after illness or injury or has changed over time.
Many adults come to us through their GP. You can also call us directly, and we will talk through whether we can help.
Swallowing difficulty (dysphagia) is more common after a stroke, brain injury or neurological event, and as we get older. Occasional coughing is normal. If it happens regularly, see your GP soon. A GP care plan may allow Medicare rebates for some sessions.
Communication can get harder for many reasons. Support is shaped around your needs and everyday life. Call our team to talk it through.
Speech can become unclear after a stroke or TIA, or with conditions such as Parkinson’s disease. We help you communicate with others and reduce the impact on daily life.
Simple strategies, such as reducing background noise, can help. Some people need an assessment for a hearing aid. We can talk through what will help you keep your relationships strong.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) ranges from tablets and devices to paper-based picture systems. We assess what suits you, support signing and help with funding applications for devices.
After a stroke or with a degenerative disease, people may have voice problems, dysarthria, dyspraxia or swallowing problems. Speech pathologists diagnose and treat these, so you can keep socialising as you did before.
Speech pathologists work closely with GPs. Your GP can tell you when a referral is needed, and some patients are eligible for a care plan that allows Medicare rebates for some sessions. Ask your GP, or call us for information about funding.
Call or send an enquiry. We are happy to answer questions with no obligation.
